This project is now in Blackboard - much revised! (to be completed later - add rubric, points, more directions of steps -The following is the basic idea)
Research and present as a team the background and poetry of one of the following: The Easter Rising 1916, The Famine, The Troubles.
For the next three weeks one of your assignments will be a major project. You get to choose your topic from a list of three. Three groups will form and work together to research the historical background and poetry related to a major event in Irish history.
First Step: Go to one of the three following pages and sign up for your choice.
The Famine (the major one of many) of 1847-49 changed the face of Ireland forever.
Easter 1916 catapulted the population into creating the Republic. You read an article about this when we did Yeats.
The Troubles covers roughly the 1970's - 1990's. Northern Ireland suffered much violence for decades.
Second Step: appoint leader, divide tasks
Procedure: Choose group, appoint leader, focus on a topic, divide the duties, establish guidelines (length, etc.) and deadlines, submit to whole class.
Follow-up: Each student chooses a topic his group did not present and answers the questions posed on the poetry.
